Barack has decided that armed self-defense “defies common sense”

By Doug Book, editor

“Did you see how dark it was? It’s likely that more people would have been killed.” This was Bill Clinton’s response to a suggestion that law abiding people with firearms of their own might have been able to save lives by stopping Islamic terrorist Omar Mateen at the Orlando nightclub Pulse. Of course, Bill was comfortably surrounded by armed security during his Bloomberg television interview, as was Barack during his speech in Orlando a few days later.
But Obama offered an even more pointed dissent from those who believe the little people should be permitted the means of preserving their own existence. “This debate needs to change,” declared Barack. “It’s outgrown the old political stalemates. The notion that the answer to this tragedy would be to make sure that more people in a nightclub are similarly armed to the killer defies common sense.” (my emphasis)

Having the means to defend oneself defies common sense? Then why are you surrounded by scores of armed guardians 24 hours each day, Mr. Obama, especially given that you believe it makes good sense to transform the fundamental right of self-defense into a rare privilege?

Not surprisingly, the president lacked the capacity to limit himself to just one idiotic statement. For he claimed to be uncertain about the motive behind Omar Mateen’s cowardly murder of 49 unarmed, or rather disarmed individuals. “Whatever the motivations of the killer, whatever influences led him down the path of violence and terror,” moaned the hypocrite-in-chief, confused about Mateen’s reasons for the slaughter, even as the Muslim killer had called Orlando’s News 13 producer Matthew Gentili and said, “I did it for ISIS. I did it for the Islamic State.”

Obama then added, “…those who were killed and injured here were gunned down by a single killer with a powerful assault weapon. The motives of this killer may have been different than the mass shooters in Aurora or Newtown. But the instruments of death were so similar.”

What was actually similar in these events was the inability of those present to defend themselves, thanks to each of the venues being declared a “Gun Free Zone” by command of anti-gun liberals. Apparently they were also of the opinion that the desire to defend oneself defies common sense.

And if Barack was fascinated by the similarity of the weapons it is only because the left is so eager to advance the narrative that the sale and possession of black rifles account for so many of the deaths which take place in the nation. The fact is, however, that in 2012, 322 people died from rifle wounds while 678 died after being punched.

What truly defies common sense is: 1) the willingness of Barack Obama and his fellow liberals in the national media to provide cover for the sub-human practitioners of Islam; 2) the fact that the media and liberal politicians refuse to publicize the thousands of successful uses of firearms in the defense of life and limb; and, 3) rendering law abiding Americans defenseless in the face of an ever-increasing import of illegal alien thugs by the Democrat Party.

  1. Barry and common sense don't even exist in the same universe.

    1. @Muhammad Morningstar--And we've had ample proof of that over the years.
